About Union Gospel Mission

Union Gospel Mission (UGM) provides critical services for people facing homelessness, poverty, and addiction throughout Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley and Greater Victoria. Their services- which include recovery programs, housing services, and career development, aim to provide a continuum of care that intentionally supports those looking to rebuild their lives.

Every year, UGM engages thousands of volunteers to support their programs. However, a sharp decline in volunteerism trailing from the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with a need to simplify their user experience, drove UGM to reconsider its volunteer engagement strategy. In 2023, they partnered with Golden to offer volunteers a streamlined digital platform, and grow their volunteer impact while reducing administrative burdens.

Today, UGM is surpassing their pre-pandemic numbers, engaging over 3000 volunteers in 2024 and increasing by 5% in 2025. As they look to 2026 and beyond, UGM plans to utilize Golden’s innovative features to scale their volunteer programs to new heights.

Key Challenges

To continue meeting the needs of their community while reducing administrative burdens for staff, UGM understood it needed to invest in a platform that could centralize its data and modernise their volunteer experience. Below are the key challenges they experienced that drove this decision:

Fragmented Data Reporting

In order to prepare reports for leadership and measure impact, UGM staff compiled data from various systems (Microsoft Excel, Better Impact) often involved time-intensive processes.

Attendance & Tracking

Prior to Golden, attendance and hour tracking was largely done in person, requiring volunteers to report hours on paper and staff to manually input data post-event.

Data Syndication

Volunteer data was not connected with other databases making it challenging to know if an individual was engaged with UGM in different avenues.

User Experience

Volunteer experiences, including finding opportunities and time tracking, were not user friendly and led to a lack of engagement on their platform. UGM realized they needed a modern system with a clean interface where volunteers could self-schedule their shifts.

Product Support & Innovation

Historically, UGM received limited support from vendors that restricted their ability to adapt a product to meet the needs of their program.

Golden Solutions

Through Golden’s modern and innovative approach to volunteer technology, UGM was able to utilize several key features of its platform to scale their volunteer impact.

Check-In Kiosk

Golden’s Check-in Kiosk allows for real-time tracking. Volunteers can sign themselves in and out from a shift- automatically capturing their attendance and hours, both improving accuracy of volunteer data and eliminating manual data entry for staff.

Salesforce CRM Integration

Golden’s direct API integration with Salesforce allows UGM to choose when, where, and how volunteer data is integrated into their donor CRM, allowing for the volunteer team and the fundraising teams to work within the same CRM platform.

Dedicated Client Strategy

As an enterprise-level client, UGM has access to a Client Strategist who manages support escalations and drives new product development based on their user feedback.

Customizable User Experiences

UGM is able to aggregate their opportunities in a branded volunteer portal, complete with user-specific customizations needed to elevate and highlight volunteer opportunities. Golden’s award-winning mobile app allows users to find volunteer opportunities from their mobile devices, and track their time with ease.

Communication Automation & Branding

Golden’s automated emails for event confirmations, reminders, updates, and follow-ups remove administrative barriers while ensuring volunteers have the information they need before and after their service. With Golden’s branded email communication package, UGM is able to customize and brand their emails for streamlined communication and brand visibility.

Executive-Ready Reporting

Golden’s Insight tab provides a centralized source of reporting for volunteer impact, providing staff a quick glance at their overall metrics while providing leadership clean and simplified reports that demonstrate growth and effectiveness.

Demonstrated Impact

Since adopting Golden, UGM has seen significant growth in their volunteer program. Their impact has been amplified through Golden’s key features and continues to help drive expansion across British Columbia.

Program Expansion

Expansion to 2 New Networks/areas encompassing 6 different sites in 2025.

Volunteer Growth

22,093 Volunteer registrations in 2025,
8% growth since year 1 of using the platform.

Volunteer Applications

1200 volunteer applications received since using the Golden platform.

User Satisfaction

75% of UGM volunteers use the Golden App; Average user score for Golden is 8.5/10.

About Hands On Atlanta

Founded in 1989, Hands On Atlanta mobilizes the Atlanta community to tackle the city’s most pressing challenges through volunteer service, with a primary focus on education and youth development. Each year, they connect tens of thousands of volunteers with meaningful opportunities in partnership with over 400 nonprofits and schools throughout Greater Atlanta.

Their mission is simple yet powerful: “We help people do something good.” Whether it’s tutoring a child, revitalizing a neighborhood park, or delivering meals to seniors, Hands On Atlanta believes everyone can be a changemaker.

Challenges

As Hands On Atlanta’s programming expanded and more volunteers engaged with their mission, the limitations of their legacy volunteer management system became increasingly evident. What once may have supported a smaller operation was no longer sustainable for a growing, high-impact organization.

One of the biggest challenges was inefficient coordination. Managing thousands of volunteer schedules, aligning them with nonprofit partner needs, and communicating updates or confirmations required juggling multiple disconnected tools. This created a cumbersome, time-consuming process for staff, leaving little room for strategic work or program innovation.

The system also lacked robust data and insights, making it difficult to accurately track and report on volunteer hours, participation rates, and overall impact. Staff members were forced to rely on manual processes to extract information for stakeholders, slowing down reporting and reducing the team’s ability to make data-informed decisions.

As volunteerism grew year over year, the platform presented scalability issues. It simply couldn’t keep up with the volume of users, events, and partner organizations, leading to bottlenecks and frustrations for everyone involved.

Lastly, the legacy system created a poor user experience for both volunteers and nonprofit partners. Navigation was often unintuitive, and finding or signing up for the right opportunities could be frustrating. These friction points posed a barrier to deeper community engagement and long-term retention.

How Golden Helped

Simplified Volunteer Registration and Engagement

Hands On Atlanta

Since launching Golden in late 2021, Hands On Atlanta has seen dramatic growth in volunteer participation and retention, an outcome directly tied to Golden’s user-friendly experience.

In 2021, the organization engaged 24,737 volunteers who contributed 76,619 hours of service. Just three years later, they’re on track in 2025 to engage over 75,000 volunteers and deliver 225,000 service hours—a more than 3x increase in both metrics since adopting Golden.

Golden’s streamlined registration process makes it easier than ever for people to get involved. Volunteers now only need to provide a few key pieces of information, removing barriers that previously led to drop-off. Once registered, volunteers are automatically added to email lists, enabling consistent engagement and communication over time.

The improved visual design of Golden’s opportunity listings has also had a measurable impact. Events are now easier to browse and more appealing to potential volunteers, encouraging more sign-ups across Hands On Atlanta’s network of programs and nonprofit partners.

Time-Saving Operational Tools

As volunteer numbers surged—from 32,311 in 2022 to 62,208 in 2024, the Hands On Atlanta team needed a platform that could scale with them. With the ability to create custom reservations in Golden, staff can manage group registrations and recurring shifts without needing to manually coordinate or follow up. And onboarding new nonprofit partners is as simple as a few clicks, allowing the organization to expand its reach quickly and efficiently.

This operational efficiency has been crucial as Hands On Atlanta deepened its community programming and launched new initiatives, requiring smoother coordination between internal teams and external partners.

Strategic Reporting and Impact Insights

Golden’s robust analytics have become a cornerstone of Hands On Atlanta’s strategic planning and storytelling. The team now tracks volunteer engagement monthly and sets annual benchmarks for growth, benchmarks they’ve consistently surpassed year after year.

For example:

 • 2022: 32,311 volunteers | 110,294 hours
 • 2023: 42,111 volunteers | 138,714 hours
 • 2024: 62,208 volunteers | 209,056 hours
 • 2025: On track for 75,000 volunteers | 225,000 hours

Through Golden’s export tools, staff can pull real-time data to analyze opportunity capacity, fill rates, and partner activity. They also segment data by cause area—education, food insecurity, environmental stewardship, and urgent needs—aligned with their Impact Teams. This granularity helps assess performance at both the programmatic and organizational level, guiding improvements and demonstrating ROI to stakeholders.

Signature initiatives like Hands On Hunger and Discovery also benefit from targeted impact data, allowing the team to refine their approach and deepen their effect in the community.

Best Practices for Organizations Considering Golden

Hands On Atlanta’s success didn’t come from technology alone; it came from a thoughtful implementation strategy that other organizations can learn from.

Their team recommends hosting monthly training sessions for nonprofit partners to ensure they’re maximizing the platform’s features. They also created a Knowledge Center using Tawk, giving volunteers 24/7 access to FAQs, tutorials, and support, empowering them to navigate opportunities independently and reducing strain on staff.

With Golden, Hands On Atlanta has created a scalable, data-informed, and community-driven volunteer management program, setting a powerful example of what’s possible when the right platform meets the right strategy.

The Challenge

With a legacy stretching back to 1892, Connie Maxwell Children’s Ministries has long served as a beacon of hope for vulnerable children and families across South Carolina. Operating across four campuses—and planning a fifth—the organization offers a continuum of care through Residential, Crisis, Family, and Foster Care programs.

As their mission grew, so did the complexity of managing a widespread network of volunteers with diverse skills and backgrounds. All volunteer data was stored in Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge NXT, their donor CRM—but the organization lacked a streamlined way to connect volunteer activity to donor engagement.

Manual data entry, inconsistent record-keeping, and time-consuming reporting processes made it difficult for staff to activate their full supporter base. Connie Maxwell needed a modern volunteer management solution that could work hand-in-hand with their CRM—enabling a seamless volunteer-to-donor journey while supporting their day-to-day operational needs.

How We Helped

Seamless Integration with Raiser’s Edge NXT

Golden’s real-time, bidirectional integration with Raiser’s Edge NXT allowed Connie Maxwell to eliminate manual data entry and reduce human error. Volunteer records automatically synced with their CRM, giving the team instant access to accurate, up-to-date information they could act on.

This wasn’t just a tech upgrade—it was a transformation in how the organization viewed and engaged its supporters.

Stronger Engagement Through Better Data

With Golden in place, Connie Maxwell added 1,060 new constituents to its CRM and updated volunteer participation records for more than 350 existing constituents. These clean, complete profiles allowed the team to build stronger, more strategic relationships—turning engaged volunteers into passionate donors.

Faster, Smarter Operations

What once took hours now takes minutes. With Golden, staff can quickly pull up volunteer data by date, location, and event. This streamlined reporting capability improved internal decision-making and freed up time for more mission-critical work.

Massive Boost in Participation

Thanks to Golden’s user-friendly platform and mobile-friendly experience, Connie Maxwell saw 2,200+ volunteer event participations, deepening community engagement and support for their programs.

White-Glove Support for Lasting Success

Golden’s dedicated developer support and test environment ensured a smooth integration process. Any implementation roadblocks were quickly resolved, allowing the team to fully adopt the system with confidence and clarity.

The Result: A Unified Mission Powered by People

With Golden, Connie Maxwell Children’s Ministries closed the gap between volunteer and donor engagement—turning two separate strategies into one cohesive community-building engine.

By aligning their volunteer activities with fundraising efforts and embracing automation, the team is now better equipped to serve the children and families who depend on them—today and for generations to come.

The post California Climate Action Corps appeared first on Golden.

]]>
In 2021, as a part of California’s comprehensive strategy to pursue climate initiatives, California Volunteers, Office of the Governor, established the country’s first state-level climate service corps known as the California Climate Action Corps (CCAC)

CCAC is a national service program led by California Volunteers and implemented by Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) under the guiding framework of AmeriCorps. The program is dedicated to advancing climate actions that engage community members, cultivate collaboration, and leave a lasting impact.

Today, CCAC has continued to scale its program size and expand its impact to local communities across California. CCAC stands as a landmark climate program and an exemplary model for generating collective impact through service and civic engagement.

In 2024, the Biden administration announced the establishment of the American Climate Corps—a national initiative with the goal of engaging over 2,000 AmeriCorps volunteers across 36 states and territories. The ACC has derived its program model from the structure and scalability of the CCAC and their commitment to providing accessible and impactful climate initiatives to volunteers and AmeriCorps members.

The Challenge

CCAC has significantly scaled its program since its inception in 2020. Each year they have continued to expand the number of NGO partners hosting AmeriCorps members and the number of volunteers participating in climate-focused service. In the 2022-2023 program year, they engaged over 15,000 volunteers and 100 AmeriCorps members, with the goal of growing that number to 25,000 volunteers and 325 AmeriCorps members for the 2023-2024 program year.

Being a federally funded program meant that CCAC had to develop rigorous tracking systems to monitor volunteer data for compliance. They had previously relied on Salesforce to track their volunteer engagement data, with AmeriCorps members manually entering in volunteer data, with some members reported having spent 8 hours each week doing data entry alone.

They soon discovered that manual data entry was not a valuable use of AmeriCorps members’ time, nor did it accurately capture volunteer records and attendance. CCAC realized that in order to meet the deliverables of their grant, they would need to invest in a volunteer management system that would centralize their network of volunteers and partners.

How Golden Helped

BACR and CCAC discovered Golden through the California Volunteers, Office of the Governor, who had been using Golden to monitor their state commission efforts since 2022. CCAC found value in the fact that they not only had a centralized system to track their volunteer opportunities among their partners, but that they also had the ability to market their opportunities to the public through Golden’s branded volunteer portal.

CCAC implemented Golden’s Aggregator model in the fall of 2023, and has seen significant program growth since. Prior to joining Golden, CCAC engaged 15,000 volunteers in service opportunities. In their first year of using Golden, CCAC has engaged 23,048 volunteers to date and is on track to meet their goal of engaging 25,000 volunteers by the end of September 2024 – a 10,000 increase in the number of volunteers in just one year. Looking to the year ahead, CCAC plans to continue to grow their program and services to more communities and partners throughout the state of California.

“Golden is an exceptional platform for finding and connecting with diverse volunteering opportunities. The website’s intuitive design, advanced filtering options, and quick sign-up process make it easy for users to find opportunities that match their interests and skills. Whether you’re new to organizing volunteering or a seasoned volunteer liaison, Golden Volunteers is the perfect resource for making a meaningful impact.”

Rachel Ostrander, CCAC Fellow

Saved 6 Hours Weekly on Data Entry

Transitioning from Golden to Salesforce meant that CCAC partners could more easily track volunteer data. Rather than entering each volunteer record manually into Salesforce, partners utilized Golden’s spreadsheet upload feature to bulk upload participant data in a few simple clicks. Many of CCAC partners leverage Golden’s check-in feature enabling volunteers to quickly sign in and streamline administrative tasks.

Golden’s Insights feature, which captures new and returning volunteer data, gave CCAC the tools to remain in compliance with federal and state reporting requirements with almost no administrative time constraints.

CCAC estimates that because of Golden, AmeriCorps members save approximately 6 hours each week on data entry, and have more time to focus on their own climate initiatives.

Increased Statewide Visibility for Volunteering

Golden’s branded volunteer portal serves as a state-wide CCAC page with public events and engagements that any Californian can volunteer for. The Calendar view displays opportunities happening each day, and the Dynamic Map will filter events by location. This has been extremely helpful to match volunteers to the right opportunities, and allow CCAC to easily identify opportunities to promote to their leadership teams, lawmakers, and other stakeholders in California.

Through promoting opportunities in Golden’s branded portal, CCAC has been able to engage over 23,000 volunteers in the 2023-2024 program year, an increase of 8,000+ volunteers from the previous year. CCAC is on track to meet their goal of engaging 25,000 volunteers in service for the 2023-2024 program year.

Shared Value Between Partners and CCAC

Golden’s Aggregator model allows partners to have their own dashboard to manage volunteer opportunities and track volunteer records, allowing for each AmeriCorps host site to have autonomy over their data and programs. As the statewide entity for the CCAC, data flows up directly from each partner into the main CCAC account.

Within their first year using Golden, CCAC was able to engage over 75 partners throughout the state of California, and over 325 AmeriCorps members to lead climate initiatives within their communities.

“Golden has been very useful in our organization. This platform gives us a great opportunity to capture sign-ups and volunteer information in a user-friendly way. We appreciate the accessibility and support as Golden continues to improve its systems.”

Kristin Ritzau, Executive Director, Food Exploration and Discovery, CCAC Site Supervisor

Future Outlook

CCAC now serves as the national model for the ACC. As other states and commissions begin to roll out new climate initiatives, CCAC continues to scale and expand their program in the 2024-2025 program year using Golden to track, monitor, and market their volunteer program. Because of the significant success they have found using Golden for CCAC, BACR is now exploring a Golden subscription of their own to manage their other programs as well.

California and the CCAC will continue to be the leading model for effective civic engagement for climate resiliency. Because of Golden, they have been able to successfully scale their program while ensuring data integrity and time savings.

The post Piedmont Park Conservancy appeared first on Golden.

]]>
The Piedmont Park Conservancy is a member and donor-funded nonprofit organization working in partnership with the City of Atlanta to ensure Piedmont Park is an iconic park for all neighborhoods of metro Atlanta. Since 1989, Piedmont Park has invested over $66 million in capital improvements for Piedmont Park. Today, the Conservancy requires over $5 million dollars in donations every year in order to manage and enhance Piedmont Park and its programs. Their mission is to enhance and preserve Piedmont Park as a vital, urban green space, and as a cultural and recreational resource that enriches the quality of life for all Atlantans.

An essential pillar to Piedmont Park Conservancy’s mission is its volunteer program. Each year, Piedmont Park hosts hundreds of park beautification projects, community cleanups, and other corporate days of service to advance their mission in the community.

In 2023, Piedmont Park engaged roughly 2,800 volunteers totaling 9,500 hours of volunteer time. Through utilizing Golden as their volunteer management software, Piedmont Park Conservancy has been able to streamline their volunteer operations, deepen their volunteer engagement, and strategically leverage volunteers as donors to support the Conservancy’s mission.

The Challenge

Piedmont Park Conservancy actively engages over 2,000 volunteers annually, most often through pre-planned volunteer events. Prior to joining Golden, Piedmont Park Conservancy had been tracking their volunteers through spreadsheets and papers, and realized that in order to scale their program they would need to invest in volunteer management software in order to meet the needs of their growing program.

Piedmont Park Conservancy knew they needed a volunteer management software system that could easily streamline their waiver collection process that was printed, signed, and digitally transcribed into Excel after each event. They also needed an easy-to-use system for volunteers to find and register for opportunities without having to create an account, and could coordinate corporate volunteer groups and large-scale days of service with ease.

Lastly, as a donor and member-funded organization, they needed a software system that could fully integrate with their donor management CRM system, Virtuous, to seamlessly integrate volunteer and donor data in one centralized database.

How Golden Helped

Golden Solutions

Piedmont Park Conservancy was already utilizing Golden as a member of the Hands On Atlanta network. When searching for a volunteer management database, they found that they could have more freedom and flexibility with their program if they were to obtain their own Golden Enterprise license to manage their program.

Since joining Golden as an Enterprise user, Piedmont Park Conversancy’s volunteer numbers have returned to pre-pandemic levels. In 2021, while still managing their program through Excel, they engaged 2,024 volunteers totaling 6,180 hours of service. Last year, in 2023, the Conservancy engaged 2,800 volunteers totaling over 9,500 hours of service.

Overall they were able to increase their volunteer count by over 700 volunteers, and 3,500 increase in volunteer hours. Piedmont Park Conservancy has also been able to engage nearly 100 corporate groups.

They credit much of this success to utilizing Golden for their volunteer management system, including these key factors:

Automated Branded Email and SMS Texting Communications

Golden’s branded email feature allows for Piedmont Park Conservancy to deepen their brand awareness with their volunteer base. Golden’s SMS feature also allows for text messages to be sent instantly to volunteers in the event of last-minute changes due to weather or other logistical communications.

Custom Reservations and Signature Events

Piedmont Park Conservancy regularly works with large groups of corporate volunteers. Golden’s Custom Reservation feature reserves spots for these groups, and easily tracks their registration. Golden’s latest feature; Signature Events, can create roles for their large-scale service opportunities, allowing them to effortlessly create and assign roles for each event.

Waiver Collection

Piedmont Park Conservancy no longer needs to collect paper waivers from volunteers. In Golden, organizers can easily upload waivers to each opportunity for a volunteer to review and accept before officially registering for an opportunity. “Golden enables us to set our volunteers up for success before they even arrive at Piedmont Park. We are able to collect and share information, expedite the waiver approval process, and track impact thanks to this software,” says Loren Lownes, Volunteer Manager at Piedmont Park Conservancy.

Integration with Virtuous

Volunteer and event data seamlessly flows into Piedmont Park Conservancy’s CRM, Virtuous. With this integration, they can track and monitor volunteers and donors in a centralized database, and begin to strategically target certain volunteers and corporate groups for funding. “Having reliable volunteer data that integrates seamlessly into our CRM has set up our team for success!” says Anne Marchetta, Development Manager at Piedmont Park Conservancy.

“Partnering with Golden to seamlessly integrate volunteer data into Virtuous has empowered organizations to see the full supporter experience”, says Mallory Greer, Director of Partnership at Virtuous. “This integration allows teams to strategically engage with volunteers, transforming them into lifelong donors through responsive fundraising.”

Donation Features with FundraiseUp

Golden and Piedmont Park Conservancy have recently partnered together to pilot a new donations feature with FundraiseUp that will prompt volunteers to make financial donations after completing opportunities or canceling their registrations. The ability to customize these tasks and target specific groups and events allows them to strategically continue to leverage volunteers as donors for their organization.

Future Outlook

Looking toward the year ahead, the Piedmont Park Conservancy is excited to utilize Golden’s Signature Events feature for their large service days to help assign volunteers to specific roles. In addition, Golden looks forward to enhancing our volunteer donation features to help convert more of Piedmont Park Conservancy’s volunteers into donors.

The post Sleep in Heavenly Peace appeared first on Golden.

]]>
Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a nonprofit organization committed to providing beds to underserved youth between the ages of three and seventeen. By addressing a fundamental need, SHP aims to support the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of children in need.

What started as a modest operation in a garage during the Christmas season of 2012 has since transformed into a nationwide movement.

Today, SHP operates 372 chapters across the United States, Canada, the Bahamas, and Bermuda and the organization has set an ambitious goal to build 365,000 beds by 2028.

The Challenge

As Sleep in Heavenly Peace grew rapidly, it encountered several operational challenges. With thousands of events a year, SHP’s growth was outpacing its existing events tool. This rapid expansion demanded a scalable solution to maintain operational efficiency.

Coupled with a decentralized structure, it led to inconsistencies in how chapters were managed. This created challenges in maintaining uniformity while allowing individual chapters to address their unique local needs.

With an ambitious goal of building 365,000 beds by 2028, the SHP team needed to efficiently onboard and train volunteers including making sure volunteers were well-prepared and aligned with SHP’s mission was essential to its success.

Lastly, SHP recognized the untapped potential of its large volunteer base as a source of financial support. Encouraging volunteers to contribute as donors was vital to sustaining the organization’s ambitious goals.

Addressing these challenges became pivotal for SHP to achieve its ambitious mission.

How Golden Helped

Sleep in Heavenly Peace

To tackle these challenges, SHP partnered with Golden to implement a comprehensive volunteer management platform tailored to its needs.

Scalability

Golden’s platform seamlessly supported Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s rapid growth, enabling the organization to manage its vast volunteer network and 339 chapters efficiently.

In 2023, Sleep in Heavenly Peace delivered slightly over 60,000 beds. By 2024, the organization delivered 75,669 beds, projecting a year-over-year growth of approximately 19.02%. This trajectory underscores the effectiveness of Golden’s solution in scaling Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s operations.

Centralized System

The platform provided a unified system that ensured consistency across chapters while allowing for customization to meet individual chapter requirements. This balanced approach addressed both the need for uniformity and flexibility.

Across all their chapters, Golden’s platform provided a stable and uniform experience for volunteers, ensuring that every chapter operated with the same level of professionalism and effectiveness.

Streamlined Onboarding and Training

Robust training modules and user-friendly onboarding processes made it easier for new volunteers to integrate quickly, alleviating administrative burdens on chapter leaders.

Within six months, 90% of SHP’s independently run chapters were onboarded with Golden. This included volunteers with diverse schedules, demonstrating the platform’s adaptability and ease of use.

“Golden’s onboarding and training was easily one of the best experiences we have ever had. The Golden support team and training has been amazing,” says an affiliated partner of Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

Self-Service Capabilities

Golden’s self-service tools empowered chapters to independently manage events and volunteer activities, enhancing efficiency and reducing reliance on centralized administrative support.

With Golden’s support, SHP improved the adoption rate of its chapters by 30%, which was critical since the majority of their organization is fully operated by volunteers. This balance of structure and flexibility highlights Golden’s role as vital cloud infrastructure for civic action.

“Self-Service is a core fundamental for us. We want Chapters to be able to do what they need when they need it. The ability to edit events on the fly, adjust how many volunteers can attend, and invite other Chapter Members to help them manage the platform is a huge boon for us,” says Zander Krauch, Salesforce Administrator at Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace logged 528,259 volunteer hours in 2024 with 138,422 sign ups, helping them serve their communities and children across the country. At the end of 2024, SHP Chapters covered an estimated 77 million people in the United States.

“Golden gave Sleep in Heavenly Peace the opportunity to completely revamp and improve our volunteer experience from registration to event,” says an affiliated partner.

Through its partnership with Golden and Fundraise Up, Sleep in Heavenly Peace successfully addressed its operational challenges and achieved significant milestones in its mission to provide beds for children in need.

The scalable platform not only streamlined volunteer management and event coordination but also enhanced the volunteer-to-donor journey, ensuring financial sustainability. With these advancements, SHP is well on its way to reaching its goal of building 365,000 beds by 2028, ensuring that no child sleeps on the floor in their community.

The post United Way of Salt Lake appeared first on Golden.

]]>
United Way of Salt Lake is one of the largest and most active chapters of The United Way, a 100+-year-old institution that facilitates volunteering and donations among a network of individuals, nonprofits, companies, and other community members.

The Challenge

United Way of Salt Lake, one of the largest and most dynamic chapters in the United Way network, plays a critical role in coordinating volunteers and donors across more than 21 impactful programs. But as their programs expanded and their community partnerships deepened, the cracks in their legacy volunteer management systems began to show.

Relying on outdated volunteer modules meant tedious manual tracking, inconsistent data across systems, and limited visibility into how volunteers were contributing over time—especially when it came to re-engaging them. Their team was spending countless hours trying to make sense of disconnected data in spreadsheets, rather than focusing on what mattered: building relationships with the people who power their mission.

At the same time, United Way had recently invested in Salesforce as their donor CRM. This introduced a new, non-negotiable requirement: any volunteer platform they adopted had to natively integrate with Salesforce and be implemented quickly—without disrupting operations or losing valuable historical data.

They needed more than a tool. They needed a partner to help them modernize their volunteer engagement strategy, align it with their development efforts, and scale for the future.

How Golden Helped

Seamless Salesforce Integration

Golden’s native, bi-directional integration with Salesforce meant United Way could sync volunteer data in real time, achieving 100% consistency across platforms. This empowered their development team to clearly see the connection between volunteer engagement and donor potential. With this insight, they could launch targeted fundraising efforts, personalized to individuals who had already shown a commitment through service.

Branded Experience and Mobile Convenience

Golden provided a fully branded volunteer portal and communications suite, giving United Way a polished, consistent presence across all touchpoints. Volunteers could easily sign up, check in, and log hours—right from their phones. Using Golden’s location-based mobile app, United Way was able to automatically track volunteer attendance and service hours, eliminating the need for manual entry and cumbersome spreadsheets.

Real-Time Impact and Time Savings

With automated hour tracking and real-time dashboards, staff no longer had to spend a full day each week compiling reports. That time was reinvested in cultivating deeper relationships with their volunteers—many of whom are now being engaged in new ways, including as donors.

The Result: A Unified, Scalable Volunteer Program

Thanks to Golden, United Way of Salt Lake transformed its volunteer program into a streamlined, data-informed engine for community engagement and donor growth. By breaking down the silos between volunteerism and fundraising, they’ve unlocked a new level of impact—backed by real-time insights and powered by a better volunteer experience.
